How Chiropractic can Help your Golf Game

Congrats to Webb Simpson for winning the 2012 US Open!  Golf is one of my hobbies and when I watched them play in the Open, I was in awe of the control they had on their swings.

One of the things I always here from patients is, “Dr. Steve, after I get adjusted I always have better golf games.  Why is that?” Although guys like Webb Simpson and Tiger Woods definitely have outstanding natural ability, getting adjusted can help everyone have not only a better time golfing, but also a better game.

So how can Chiropractic help with your golf game?

Close your eyes and touch your nose. You can do this without looking in the mirror. Why? Because your brain knows where your body (and nose) is in space. This position sense is called Proprioception. The same thing applies with your golf swing. Subluxations can interfere with your proprioception. Subluxations are misalignments in the vertebrae which puts pressure on the nerves and distorts the communication between the brain and the rest of the body. In order to have a better golf swing, your proprioception has to be at its best. Correcting subluxations will improve the way your nervous system works, therefore a better swing!

Chiropractic helps the brain- body connection by correcting subluxations.  This communication is very important; every cell, tissue and organ is connected to your brain by a nerve.  The problem is, subluxations cannot always be felt.  In fact, only 10% of the nervous system senses pain.  So you can have these misalignments and not even know it.Subluxations are not always painful. By the time you do start experiencing pain, you may have had the problem for years. Everyone, including kids, needs a Chiropractic check up (whether you’re a golfer or not) to detect and correct your subluxations.

Fight Holiday Depression

The holidays, while extremely joyful and fun, are one of the roughest times for some people to cope. Between stress, expectations, family demands and strolling down the memories of holiday past — there is a certain amount of holiday depression experienced.

Tempe Chiropractor, Dr. Steve Enriquez of Global Chiropractic doesn’t think it needs to be that way. There are ways we can fight holiday depression and cope with the holidays that are easy, inexpensive and helpful to stave off the holiday blues. Get back to enjoying the holiday season and spending quality time with the people who mean the most to you.

Ways To Fight Holiday Depression

  • Exercise: Seems like when you are low in energy you should be resting, but studies show that exercise helps the body relieve stress and produce more “feel good” hormones. (Remember the Boiled Frog?)
  • Nutrition: Simply, lower the sugar/carbs in your meals. Recent studies indicated that a diet low in sugars and simple carbohydrates and higher in protein helps the brain fight depression and signals the body to be more active.  It also showed the opposite effect with a diet consisting of high carbohydrates low protein.
  • Go Outside: Let there be light! Sometimes getting more natural sunlight is all it takes to change your mood.  During cooler months people stay indoors more so when there’s an opportunity to get outside and get some sun do it.  It maybe what you need.
  • Slow down, Take time for you and Relax: The holidays are a time of commitments to everyone else. But what about you?  Schedule some personal time each week: get your hair done, get a massage, get adjusted, your hair done, or learn about something new.
  • Chiropractic Treatment:Keep your nervous system working properly with a chiropractic treatment. As a chiropractor this is one of the most difficult aspect of patients to understand.  Most people realize that if you have back pain, neck pain chiropractic adjustments can help out.

It’s important to know that when there is a disruption in their body (for example: posture problem, misalignment in the spine, loss of motion/stiffness in any of the joints, and tight muscles) then there is also conflict with the nervous system even when pain is not present.

Yes, even when there is not pain you could have issues with the way your brain is sending messages to and from your body.  So make sure you get checked on a regular basis to see if you have an issue to maximize your body’s potential.

These five tips to avoid holiday depression can make a huge impact on your holiday season. Please contact us if there’s any other way Global Chiropractic can help make your holiday season more enjoyable!
